April 22 , 2013
Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia won the men's title in the London Marathon on Sunday while Priscah Jeptoo of Kenya secured the title in the women’s category.
Kebede, the 2012 Chicago Marathon winner, finished in a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 4 seconds. He previously captured the title in 2010 and finished third last year. Kenya's Emmanuel Mutai came in second, 29 seconds behind the winner. He won the London title in 2011.
Jeptoo won in a time of 2:20:15, well ahead of compatriot Edna Kiplagat, the 2012 London runner-up and 2010 New York Marathon winner who was 1:17 behind. Jeptoo won the silver medal at last year's London Olympics and was third in last year's London Marathon.
Many of the participants wore black ribbons to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. A moment of silence was held before the start with extra security on hand.
