Kansas City Chiefs host game after Jovan Belcher shooting
December 3 , 2012
The Kansas City Chiefs hosted an NFL game on Sunday at the stadium, where one of their players killed himself after shooting his girlfriend the previous day.
Supporters observed a moment's silence for victims of domestic violence before the noon kick-off against the Carolina Panthers.
There was no mention of linebacker Jovan Belcher, who shot himself in front of his coach shortly after shooting his 22-year-old girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins.
Kansas City went on to win the game, 27-21.
On Saturday, the 25-year-old first-team linebacker shot Perkins dead at their home and then drove to a training facility at Arrowhead Stadium.
He then shot himself in the parking lot.
The couple had a three-month-old daughter who is believed to have been in a nearby room at the time of the shooting. Belcher's mother was also in the house and called the police.
The incident follows criticism of the team's senior management due to a poor start to the season, which saw the team lose eight consecutive games before Sunday's game.
