August 12 , 2012
Italian soccer player Emanuele Pesoli, of Serie B side Verona, has gone on a hunger strike in protest over his three-year match-fixing ban.
The 31-year-old defender also chained himself to the gates of the Italian Football Federation's headquarters in Rome.
Pesoli was banned following a probe into illegal betting on matches while he was at Siena, the club he left in July.
He was one of several players, coaches and officials to be banned by the federation on Friday in the latest scandal to hit Italian soccer.
