IOC Board to Discuss Viability of Awarding 2024 & 2028 Olympic Games at the Same Time
May 20 , 2017
Executive Board of International Olympic Committee (IOC) is all set to discuss the viability of awarding hosting rights of 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games at the same time to avoid the existing bidding procedure that produces "too many losers". The scheduled board meeting is on June 9, 2017 in Switzerland’s Lausanne. Report says that the concerned board meeting will discuss on two reports submitted by the Working Group that is looking into the candidature procedure. While one report is regarding the candidature procedure reform for Olympic Winter Games 2026, the other concerns the candidature procedure for both 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games. Though initially there were six candidate cities (Los Angeles, Paris, Budapest, Boston, Hamburg, and Rome) for the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, only two cities (Los Angeles and Paris) remain in the race after candidature withdrawal by the other 4 cities.
