Guy crashes Berlin Marathon and breaks tape
October 1 , 2013
Although Kenya's Wilson Kipsang broke a world record at Berlin Marathon yesterday, he didn't break the tape.
That honor went to an unnamed man, who jumped in from the crowd, wearing a number and a T-shirt with an escort agency's advertisement. Race officials caught him at the finish line that had been blocked off considering the bombings at the Boston Marathon.
The man was charged with trespassing and was passed to police.
Meanwhile, Kipsang finished the race in two hours, three minutes and 23 seconds. He was awarded $54,000 along with a bonus of $68,000 for breaking the world record, previously held by Patrick Makau of Kenya.
