Germany are World Cup champions

  • After demolishing Brazil in the semi-final, Germany beat Argentina 1-0 to lift the 2014 World Cup at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

The only goal of the match came from substitute Mario Gotze's superb strike in the second half of extra time, with only seven minutes of play remaining. For once, the powerful Argentine defense had no answer as Gotze found the net and dashed the South American nation's hopes.

Even the magical Lionel Messi, who was brilliant in patches, could not stop the German machine from winning the World Cup after 24 years.
