Former New Zealand skipper Chris Cairns charged with perjury

  • Chris Cairns, the former New Zealand cricket captain, has been charged with perjury, as per media reports.

The case is linked to a two-year-old libel action in England in which the 44-year-old former all-rounder sued Lalit Modi, head of the popular Indian Premier League.

Cairns has maintained that allegations of match-fixing against him were absurd and he would prove his innocence. Next week, he will be attending a court hearing.

Cairns, who played more than 60 Tests for his country, said the hearing was “an opportunity” to “clear my name once and for all.”
