Former champ Bob Hewitt charged with rape

  • Grand Slam doubles champion Bob Hewitt has been charged with two counts of rape and one of sexual assault. These cases date back to 1980s.

The 73-year-old had been charged with raping two girls under the ages of 16 and sexually assaulting another under the age of 18.  Hewitt had previously denied these accusations and couldn't attend the court's first hearing due to poor health. The former champ has been suffering from depression and anxiety attacks. His medical certificate was submitted to explain why he couldn't travel from his residence in South Africa.

The rape victims said they were being coached by Hewitt at the time of the abuse.

The case has been postponed until Oct. 4.
