FIFA President Mulling Idea of Using Video Assistant Referees in Russia World Cup 2018

  • FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said that video assistant referees have a realistic chance of being used during World Cup 2018, to be hosted in Russia. He stressed on the fact that their experience of video assistance during Club World Cup in Japan last December has given them confidence of fine-tuning the technology and using it during “Confederations Cup, the Under-20 World Cup and the Club World Cup”. The final go ahead on the use of technology during World Cup 2018 will be given by global rule-making body of football, IFAB, at a meeting in March.
