FIFA investigator quits in World Cup report row
December 19 , 2014
Michael Garcia, independent ethics investigator of FIFA has quit in protest over the way his report has been handled in relation to the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Garcia said that he has lost confidence in Judge Hans-Joachim Eckert’s independence, who is also his colleague in the ethics committee. He also added that there is lack of leadership in FIFA in relation to these issues and therefore he took this decision to quit from his position. Sepp Blatter, FIFA President said he is surprised by Garcia’s decision but the work of the committee will continue.
