F1 Driver Maria De Villota Loses Eye In Crash

  • In her first test drive for the Marussia team from Oxfordshire, 32 year old Formula 1 driver, Maria De Villota, crashed into a support truck at the Duxford Airfield circuit, Cambridgeshire, causing her serious head injuries and costing her an eye. The Spanish driver was driving an MR-01 race car and the accident happened at the end of her first lap. Maria, the daughter of former-F1 racer Emilio De Villota, was operated upon by surgeons at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and her condition was said to be critical but stable. Born in Madrid, Maria graduated from the European University with a degree in sports science.
