Eight women disqualified from Olympic badminton doubles
August 2 , 2012
Eight badminton players have been disqualified from the Olympics’ women's doubles competition after being accused of "not using one's best efforts to win".
Two pairs from South Korea and one from China and Indonesia made a series of basic errors in Tuesday's games.
The four pairs have been accused of wanting to lose in order to manipulate the draw for the knockout stage.
The Badminton World Federation rejected an appeal made by South Korea while Indonesia withdrew its appeal.
Their places in the last eight will be taken by pairs who came in third and fourth within the respective qualifying groups.
