Detroit Red Wings sign three-year contract extension with Pavel Datsyuk

  • The Detroit Red Wings signed a three-year contract extension through to the 2016-17 season with forward Pavel Datsyuk on Tuesday.

    Though financial details were not released, the deal is reportedly worth $23 million.

    Datsyuk, who had one year remaining on a seven-year $46.9 million contract, has played his entire career with Detroit.

    He has helped the team win two Stanley Cup titles since joining them during the 2001-02 season.

    The 34-year-old Russian native has 255 goals and 512 assists for 767 points in 779 career regular-season games.

    He is also a three-time winner of the Selke Trophy as the league's top defensive forward.
