Detroit Pistons name Maurice Cheeks as new head coach

  • Maurice Cheeks was named as the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

    Cheeks, a former head coach in both Portland and Philadelphia, agreed to a multi-year contract, according to media reports.

    He has spent the past four seasons as an assistant with Oklahoma City, where he helped guide the Thunder to the NBA Finals in 2012 and the best record in the Western Conference this past season.

    Cheeks, 56, will be formally introduced at a press conference later this week.
