Derek Jeter undergoes ankle surgery

  • New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter underwent surgery on a broken left ankle on Saturday.

    The procedure was performed in Charlotte, North Carolina. Recovery is expected to take up to five months.

    Jeter fractured his left ankle in the 12th inning of last Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers in the first game of the American League Championship Series.

    In six postseason games, Jeter hit .333 with two runs batted in. He batted .316 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in the regular season.
