Davis Cup: Shapovalov Fined $7,000 for Defaulting Match

  • Shapovalov to Pay Penalty of $7,000

    February 7, 2017: As per reports, Denis Shapovalov will have to pay $7,000 (£5,600) for hitting umpire Arnaud Gabas and defaulting the match. He will be paying $2,000 for the default and $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

    The International Tennis Federation has mentioned that no other action against the Canada's sportsman is anticipated yet.

    Reports also say that Shapovalov later apologized to the umpire at the match referee's office.

    

    Denis Shapovalov Defaulted, Britain Reaches Quarter-finals

    February 6, 2017: As per reports, Canada's Denis Shapovalov hit the umpire with a ball in the heat of the moment, as a result of which he was defaulted from the match, Davis Cup. On the other hand, with a 3-2 victory in the World Group first-round tie in Ottawa, Great Britain reached the quarter-finals of the match.

    Britain will be facing France in the quarter-finals in April.
