Davis Cup: Djokovic survives scare, propels Serbia to early kead

  • Ace Serbian player Novak Djokovic battled through the pain and survived an early scare, as his nation took up a 2-0 in Davis Cup World Group tie against Russia. The 29-year-old, who required treatment on a sore right shoulder, dropped the first set and was trailing 0-3 in the second against 20-year-old Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic, looking to overcome the shocking second round exit at the Australian Open, needed first-set treatment on his right shoulder before recovering for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 lead. Medvedev lost the opening game of the fourth set.

The pain I had, was restraining me from playing the points the way I wanted to, said the twelve-time major winner Djokovic.

The winners of the tie match will compete against either Croatia or five-time champions Spain in the quarter-finals.
