Dario Franchitti forced to retire
November 15 , 2013
Four-time IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti was forced to retire on Thursday since doctors told him that it wasn't safe for him to continue racing anymore.
Franchitti broke his right ankle and spine during a crash at the Houston race on Oct. 6. He also suffered a concussion and the debris from this crash injured 13 fans and an official at IndyCar.
The 40-year-old champion said the doctors "have made it very clear that the risks involved in further racing are too great and could be detrimental to my long term well-being. Based on this medical advice, I have no choice but to stop."
