Cricket World Cup: New Zealand beat Australia by one wicket

  • New Zealand defeated Australia by one wicket in an extraordinary match on Saturday that saw Australia bundled out for 151 and the Kiwis suffering a similar batting collapse while chasing what should have been an easy total.

Batting first, Australia looked secure at 80-1, but then lost an astonishing 8 wickets for 26 runs. When New Zealand came on to bat, it appeared the game would get over quickly, with Brendan McCullum smashing 50 off 24 deliveries.

But after his departure, wickets tumbled and it could have gone either way as New Zealand were reduced to 146-9. It took a huge six by Kane Williamson to end the game in New Zealand’s favor.
