Cricket World Cup: Australia overwhelm New Zealand, claim fifth title

  • It turned out to be a one-sided ICC Cricket World Cup final as Australia bundled out New Zealand for 183 in 45 overs, and then raced to victory with seven wickets and 16.5 overs to spare.

Grant Elliott and Ross Taylor's 111-run partnership was the only silver lining in New Zealand’s batting as wickets fell in a heap on both sides of that stand.

Australia, who had thrashed India in the semi-final, had little trouble in reaching the Kiwis' target, with captain Michael Clark, playing the last ODI match of his career, scoring a confident 74.

This was Australia’s fifth World Cup crown.
