Cap Ripken's mother saves her car from being stolen

  • A man holding a handgun demanded basketball great Cal Ripkin's mother's car on Tuesday; she activated a key alarm and scared him off.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of NBRS Bank in Aberdeen and Vi Ripken wasn't harmed; she went inside the bank after he left to report the crime.

The ATM photo helped identifying the man and he was taken into custody the same day; charges are still pending against the suspect.

Ripken was also abducted last year and returned unharmed one day later; no one has been charged for the abduction yet and Cal Ripkin announced this year that he offers $100,000 in reward to whoever comes forward with the information about the person responsible.
