British athlete's stolen Olympic bronze medal returned

  • One of two Team Great Britain Olympic bronze medals stolen from a London nightclub has been recovered, police announced on Friday.

The medals were taken after hockey player Hannah Macleod and rower Alex Partridge left their jackets and the medals unattended on Wednesday.

The thefts occurred at London’s swanky Mahiki nightclub after the Queen hosted an event at Buckingham Palace to celebrate London 2012 athletes.

Macleod's medal was posted anonymously to the England Hockey head office in Buckinghamshire.

Partridge's jacket was handed in to a London police station on Thursday but without the medal.

A 31-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the investigation, has been bailed.
