Britain's Heather Watson handed late place in Olympics tennis tournament

  • Great Britain's Heather Watson has been handed a place in the women's singles in the Olympic tennis tournament.

    Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine was forced to withdraw from the London Games due to injury allowing 20-year-old Watson to take her place alongside fellow Britons Anne Keothavong and Elena Baltacha.

    Watson reached the third round at Wimbledon. She is also competing in the women's doubles with Laura Robson.

    In the men's tournament, defending champion Rafael Nadal has also had to pull out because of injury.
