Bouchard beats Halep to set up title clash with Kvitova

  • Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard beat Simona Halep 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 to set up a Wimbledon final clash with Petra Kvitova, the 2011 champion.

    The 13-seeded from Montreal became the first Canadian to enter a Grand Slam final at Wimbledon.

    Bouchard, the junior title winner in 2012, triumphed over the Romanian after missing two break points in game seven and trailing during the tie-break.

    Meanwhile, Kvitova beat fellow Czech player Lucie Safarova 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 in the other semi-final.
