Blackburn Rovers fans raise $3.1 million for buy-out bid

  • A trust set up by Blackburn Rovers fans who want to buy the club claims it has raised $3.1 million.

More than 500 fans turned up at King George's Hall in Blackburn to hear plans to purchase the soccer club from Indian firm Venky's.

The club was recently relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

Chief executive of the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust, Wayne Wild, said he had requested an informal meeting with the owners but has not yet received a response.

The trust was set up three months ago and has set a target of $15.6 million.

Venky's, which bought Blackburn for $67.3 million in November 2010, have repeatedly denied the club is for sale.
