Australian Open: Murray defeats Bhambri in first round

  • Andy Murray started his Australian Open campaign with a straight-sets victory over Yuki Bhambri, who was making his Grand Slam debut, in the first round at Melbourne on Monday, January 18, according to media reports.

    The sixth seeded Briton took two hours and 12 minutes to defeat the 317th ranked Indian 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-3) on the Margaret Court Arena. The 27-year-old Murray was down 4-1 in the third set, but recovered to win the tie-break.

    The Scot’s next opponent is Marinko Matosevic of Australia.
