January 28 , 2015
The U.S. teenager Madison Keys defeated her fellow countrywoman Venus Williams on Wednesday, January 28, to reach the semi-final of the Australian Open in Melbourne, according to media reports. Keys also overcame her injury on upper leg that proved a big impediment at Wimbledon in the preceding year for which she required a medical timeout off court during the second session.
This will be the unseeded Keys’s first Grand Slam semi-final, where she faces the other Williams sister, world number one Serena.
Keys, 19, took one hour 54 minutes to beat Venus Williams, the seven-time Grand Slam winner, 6-3 4-6 6-4.
Top seeded Serena Williams eased past Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-2.
