Australian batsman Phillip Hughes dies

  • Australia batsman Phillip Hughes died two days after he was hit by a delivery during a match in Sydney, according to media reports.

    The 25-year-old did not regain consciousness and died in hospital, Peter Brukner, the Australia team doctor reportedly said.

    James Sutherland, the head of Cricket Australia, described his death as a “real life tragedy.”

    Michael Clarke, Australia’s captain, reading out a statement on behalf of Phillip Hughes’s family, said they were “devastated by the loss of our much-loved son and brother.”
