Ashes: Adam Voges and Fawad Ahmed make it to Australian squad

  • Middlesex skipper Adam Voges, 35, and spinner Fawad Ahmed, 33, are part of the Australian squad that will play against England in the Ashes this summer.

The Pakistan-born Fawad had sought asylum in Australia in 2010, and will be the second spinner in the team. Voges, who was chosen 'Sheffield Shield Player of the Year', amassed 1,358 runs, averaging over 104.

Both players had “sensational seasons at domestic level”, the Australian national selector Rod Marsh said.

The Ashes begin in July after Australia play two Tests against West Indies.
