2017 will see the Last F1 Malaysian Grand Prix

  • It was clarified that Petronas, the state-owned oil company, will continue to sponsor the Mercedes team, as beforeAfter successfully hosting the F1 Malaysian Grand Prix for nineteen long years, the Malaysian Prime Minister Abdul Razak issued a statement announcing 2017 F1 GP will be the last race despite having a contract to run the event till 2018.

    The reason given has been rising costs, drop in ticket sales and not adequate push for travel and tourism, which was the main objective when Malaysia first signed up for holding the popular F1 race on its soil. Rising competition from other Asian countries had diminished the exclusivity of the Malaysian race.

    It was clarified that Petronas, the state-owned oil company, will continue to sponsor the Mercedes team, as before.
