Young Fathers win best record prize

  • Young Fathers, a hip-hop group based in Edinburgh, have won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for 2014. The £20,000 prize honors the year’s best British or Irish record, media reports say.

The trio’s record 'Dead' was ranked ahead of 11 others. Graham 'G' Hastings, a band member, said Young Fathers have “always wanted to make something bigger than the city we were living in.”

The jury said Young Fathers had a “unique take” on the country’s urban music.
