Walter White cost his neighbors around $30K

  • It seems as if Breaking Bad's Walter White may have contained a lot of meth cash at his residence over the years. He is not, however, doing any good to his neighborhood. According to a study, the value of homes declines by 10.5 percent as much as 19 percent in the first year of a meth lab being discovered near them.

Although White didn't actually have a lab in his house, it is safe to assume the effect would be similar. The medium property values in the neighborhood is $265,000 and a 10.5 percent drop would cost every owner about $27.825.

The authors of the study said policies to reduce the number of such labs should be well funded since a large amount of American wealth is tied up in homes.
