Viewership for Oscars ceremony drops to six-year low
February 25 , 2015
Sunday’s Oscar ceremony had the lowest ratings of the past six Academy Awards events, with 36.6 million Americans tuning in to watch it this time.
The viewership dropped by 16% compared to last year, figures say.
Commentators are giving different reasons for this drop in interest. While some said host Neil Patrick Harris did not enthuse a section of the TV audience, others believe that the awards largely ignored films that had a mass appeal.
In 2014, around 43.7 million people in the US saw the awards’ TV broadcast.
