Veteran actress Luise Rainer dies at 104

  • Hollywood Golden Era Oscar winner Luise Rainer has died, aged 104. Rainer had won the best actress Oscar award successively in 1936 and 1937. Post-Hollywood,  the German-born star eventually settled in London.  She also appeared on TV; one of her performances  was in 1984 in the US series The Loveboat. She enacted her last significant role came in 1998 in the film The Gambler, opposite famous actors Michael Gambon and Dominic West.

     The actress started her career with German films before she caught the attention of Hollywood studio MGM, leading to her debut in 1935. The legendary actress was married twice. She had one daughter, Francesca Knittel-Bowyer, out of her second marriage. Francesca died from pneumonia.
