US: 'Minions' storms to box office glory on debut

  • ‘Minions’, the Despicable Me spin-off, has stormed to the number one slot of the North American box office on its debut, making it the second biggest opening for an animated film.

    The film took $115.2 million in the US and Canada, after topping the box office in the UK for two weeks. Only Shrek the Third in 2007 has performed better on debut.

    Meanwhile, ‘Jurassic World’ slipped to a distant second position with $18.1 million, after spending four weeks at number one. ‘Inside Out’ was at number three, with $17.1 million.
