George Hamilton IV, a renowned country music star, died in Tennessee aged 77 after suffering a massive heart attack.
The North Carolina-born American singer and guitarist, who started performing in the 1950s, switched to country after dabbling with pop for a short while.
He soon became famous as a country singer, producing dozens of hits in the sixties and seventies.
Later in his career he took a keen interest in gospel music. His last album, in 2010, was inspired by gospel music.
