U.S. shooting hits Dark Knight ticket sales
July 22 , 2012
Opening day ticket sales for Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises failed to meet box office projections as moviegoers seemed to avoid theaters in the wake of a fatal gun rampage at a midnight premiere.
The film made $74 million on Friday in the United States and Canada and is seen generating $173 million by the end of the weekend.
The Dark Knight Rises was one of the most-anticipated films of the year before a gunman opened fire at a screening in Aurora, Colorado on Friday, killing 12 people and injuring 58.
Ahead of its debut, forecasters predicted opening weekend sales ranging from $170 million to $198 million.
