U.K. Police receive information about Sir Cliff Richard

  • Police in U.K. confirmed that they had received information from a number of people following a search at a property in Sunningdale, Berkshire, which belongs to the singer, Sir Cliff Richard.

An allegation has been made against Sir Cliff Richard that a sexual offence took place which involved a 16-year-old boy in 1985. The offence is alleged to have taken place at an event where the U.S. preacher Billy Graham appeared in nearby Sheffield.

Sir Cliff Richard, now aged 73, has refuted the allegation, saying that it is "completely false". In a recently issued statement he clarified: "For many months I have been aware of allegations against me of historic impropriety which have been circulating online. The allegations are completely false. Up until now I have chosen not to dignify the false allegations with a response, as it would just give them more oxygen."

Sir Cliff Richard also said he would "co-operate fully" with the police in the ongoing investigation.
