A Turner masterpiece has fetched £30 million, a world record for the artist’s work, according to media reports.
A buyer agreed to pay £30.3 million on phone at Sotheby's for the work titled ‘Rome, From Mount Aventine.’
The British artist’s painting had been exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1836. Before the current sale, the painting was bought by the Fifth Earl of Rosebery in 1878.
Alex Bell of Sotheby's said the picture “retains the freshness of the moment it was painted.”
