Tommy Ramone, punk band founder, dies

  • Tommy Ramone, a founding member of the American punk band The Ramones, died in New York at the age of 65. He was being treated for bile duct cancer.

    The Hungary-born Ramone started The Ramones with three New York school friends in 1974.

    Between 1974 and 1978 he was the band’s drummer. He also co-produced the group’s first three albums.

    Though commercially not very successful, The Ramones had a cult following in the United States.
