Tattoos considered a taboo in South Korea

Clandestine work life, heavy fines, repeated raids, and even jail are what professional tattoo artists regularly go through in South Korea, according to media reports. Despite the increasing trend of the fashion statement, the art of tattoo making and injecting ink into the skin is considered illegal in the country.

While on one hand the tattoo artists are officially listed as “unemployed,” four other tattoo makers on the other hand have been working for long hours in a tattoo parlor on a daily basis from past 10 months.
