Tarantino U.S. film premiere canceled

  • The American premiere of Quentin Tarantino's western Django Unchained has been canceled in the wake of last week's shootings at a Connecticut school.

"In this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event," said the film's distributor.

Tuesday's event in Los Angeles was replaced by a screening for cast and crew along with their friends and families.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is to attend a low key screening of his new film Jack Reacher in Pittsburgh later today.

The event replaces a premiere due to take place on Saturday, which was called off "out of honor and respect for the families of the victims".

Cruise will introduce the film, which opens with a sniper shooting dead several people.

Twenty children and six women were killed in the attack on Sandy Hook school by a man who then took his own life.
