Swedish poet and Nobel laureate Tomas Transtroemer dies aged 83

Tomas Transtroemer, the Swedish poet who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 2011, has died, aged 83.
He died in Stockholm following a brief illness.
A stroke in 1990 had affected his speech.
Transtroemer’s poems have been translated into over 50 languages. While awarding him the Nobel Prize, the Royal Swedish Academy said his “condensed, translucent images” gave “fresh access to reality”.
A trained psychologist, he published his first poem collection, Seventeen Poems, at the age of 23.
