Samuel Goldwyn Jr, who spearheaded indie cinema movement, dies

  • Samuel Goldwyn Jr, a movie mogul who championed the cause of indie cinema in the US and UK, has died from congestive heart failure, according to media reports. He was 88.

    His father was one of the founding members of Hollywood.

    Samuel Goldwyn Jr gave Julia Roberts a major break in 'Mystic Pizza,' a 1988 film.

    He produced several British films such as 'Truly Madly Deeply' and 'The Madness of King George.' 

    'Man With the Gun,' the first film of his production firm Formosa Productions, fetched him $1 million.
