Rupert Murdoch files for divorce
June 14 , 2013
News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch has filed for divorce from his wife Wendi, the company confirmed on Thursday.
The announcement comes just days before News Corp itself split into two companies.
The reasons for the filing were not disclosed though a spokesman for Murdoch said the marriage had been “irretrievably broken for more than six months”.
Murdoch, 82, married Wendi Deng, 44, in 1999.
A person familiar with the situation said Murdoch and Deng had signed a prenuptial agreement.
The couple have two young daughters.
Murdoch also has four adult children from his two previous marriages.
Deng grew up in Guangzhou, China and moved to the United States in 1988 after working as an interpreter for an American couple living in China.
She went on to study at Yale and later interned at News Corp's Star TV in 1996.
She met Murdoch in 1998 when she served as his interpreter during a business trip to China.
The pair tied the knot a year later after Murdoch filed for divorce from his wife of 31 years.
