REO Speedwagon cancels their concert at SeaWorld

  • SeaWorld Orlando has confirmed that REO Speedwagon has canceled their concert which was part of the "Bands, BBQ and Brew" series. This is the latest in a series of cancellations following a CNN documentary "Blackfish," that aired in October, which showed a SeaWorld trainer killed by an Orca (Killer Whale). The documentary raised questions about the humaneness and safety of keeping Orcas in captivity. The musicians and groups who have canceled include Barenaked Ladies, Willie Nelson, Cheap Trick, Heart, and Trisha Yearwood.

SeaWorld Orlando has removed the names of these musicians from their website and updated it to read "incredible concerts with top artists in classic rock and country music." SeaWorld spokesperson Nick Gollattscheck said the documentary ignored the park's research and conservation efforts and invited the artists to find out more about this for themselves. "The bands and artists have a standing invitation to visit any of our parks to see firsthand or to speak to any of our animal experts to learn for themselves how we care for animals and how little truth there is to the allegations made by animal extremist groups opposed to the zoological display of marine mammals" he said.
