Renowned Turkish writer Yasar Kemal has died, aged 92.
Ethnically a Kurd, his work was published in several languages and he was one of Turkey’s best-known writers.
His first novel 'Memed, My Hawk' propelled him to the international spotlight in the 1950s. Many of his novels were made into movies.
Later in his career, he spoke candidly about the Turkish army’s clashes with Kurds.
In a tribute, prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu described Kemal as a “great writer and artist”.
