Peter O'Toole to retire from stage and screen

  • Veteran British actor Peter O'Toole has announced he is retiring from acting in films and stage.

    O'Toole, praised for his roles in films such as Lawrence of Arabia, said his career "has brought me public support, emotional fulfilment and material comfort.”

    Early on his career, O’Toole starred in several Shakespearean roles on stage, including Hamlet.

    He found fame in films such as Goodbye, Mr. Chips, The Ruling Class and My Favorite Year.

    He has been nominated for eight Academy Awards. He won an honorary Oscar in 2003 for his numerous memorable roles.
