PBS lands 58 Emmy nods

Public television network PBS surprised Hollywood by bagging 58 Emmy award nominations.
The accolades comes courtesy of the critically acclaimed drama Downton Abbey and a Sherlock Holmes miniseries.
Cable network HBO topped the list for the 12th consecutive year with 81 nods, including best drama series nominations for Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
CBS followed and led broadcast channels with 60 programs including the hit comedy The Big Bang Theory.
Sixteen of the PBS nominations went to Downton Abbey, a British World War I era drama. Six of its actors also earned nominations.
The nominated episode of the Sherlock Holmes miniseries was A Scandal in Belgravia.
The Emmys are the top TV awards in the United States and are given out by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
This year's Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on September 23.
