Oscar venue renamed as Dolby Theatre
May 2 , 2012
Audio company Dolby Laboratories has purchased the naming rights for the 3,400-seat Oscar Awards ceremony venue.
Dolby has signed a 20-year contract with the CIM Group, which owns the theatre and adjacent hotel and shopping complex.
Since it opened in 2001, the theatre has carried Kodak’s name.
Eastman Kodak Co withdrew from the naming rights after filing for bankruptcy protection in January last year.
Details of the deal with Dolby have not been disclosed. Kodak paid $75 million to CIM around 20 years ago to have its name on the theatre.
